Pokémon Go right now to catch the Unova legendaries
All players can snag several Gen 5 legendary Pokémon, including VGC staples Tornadus and Landorus
Due to an issue with a timed research on Pokémon Go, all players can currently catch seven species of Unova legendary Pokémon by accessing the Events research screen and then scrolling down to Road to Unova: Raids Timed Research.
These encounters are available for just under three days, so be sure to complete them by this weekend to grab Terrakion, Cobalion, Virizion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, and for some reason five (!!) Genesect. One of my Genesect encounters was shiny, but this is not guaranteed — I got lucky.
While these research encounters will never flee, be sure to bring enough Razz berries and Pokéballs to catch them. I used Ultra Balls because I have plenty and didn’t feel like trying for these rare Pokémon for hours, so it took just a few minutes to catch all 11 encounters.
These were supposed to be rewards for winning a number of raids during this event, but I can confirm as a player who has not done a raid in months that there’s no requirement to unlock them all right now. It’s open season for legendary Pokémon! As an aside, lots of Unova starter Pokémon and Eevee are also popping up due to this ongoing event, so it’s generally a fun time to fire up Pokémon Go.
Shiny Genesect is simply cool, but as a VGC player it’s nice to have another copy of Landorus in particular to have both the standard and Therian form ready to battle. Since they rely on different attack stats, switching between the forms is bothersome.
Be sure to fire up Pokémon Go in the next few days to grab all of these rare Pokémon, and best of luck with the shiny odds on them!
