Order Up! Shiny Tatsugiri and Mighty Dondozo are on the menu this weekend
Shiny Tatsugiri is really hard to spot, but this event should help trainers find their preferred form.
Dondozo and Tatsugiri are two of the more fun Pokémon designs we’ve gotten, and fans of the sushi duo can add a shiny Tatsugiri to their collection starting this weekend during a special Mass Outbreak Event.
The three Tatsugiri forms (Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy) will appear in droves in Paldea, Kitakami, and Terarium respectively. Knowing which form to look for in each map is a huge help, given how difficult it is to tell the difference between the shiny variant of one form and the base of the others.
The different Tatsugiri forms are not merely aesthetic. When eaten by its big companion, Curly (base orange) Tatsugiri gives Dondozo an attack boost upon use of the move Order Up, while Droopy (base red) gives a defense boost and Stretchy (base yellow) gives a speed boost.
Personally I find Curly to be the most viable competitively with Stretchy the next-best, which makes it unfortunate that Droopy’s shiny is by far the best and most striking one.
Anyway, to find your own shiny Tatsugiri (or get one of each form, if you’re really feeling ambitious) you’ll just need to ensure your copy of Scarlet/Violet is updated on July 26 and finish your search by August 8.
As always, using sandwich Sparkling Power level 3 is ideal for the most effective shiny hunts. There are lots of combinations of ingredients to achieve that level for either Water or Dragon type (either will work here).
Two of the easiest recipes are Cucumber and two Salty Herba Mystica OR Avocado and two Salty Herba Mystica to get the trio of Sparkling, Title, and Encounter Power 3 for water or dragon types, respectively.
If you need a strong Dondozo to pair with your new shiny Tatsugiri, the Mightiest Mark Dondozo 7-star raid event will be running at the same time. Dondozo has its default Water tera plus the hidden ability Water Veil, which prevents it from being burned.
Special attackers are ideal to bring here given Dondozo has a base defense of 115 vs a base special defense of 65. Miraidon or Bellibolt make sense as counters, although Dondozo can learn Earthquake.
Grass type special attackers may last on the field longer vs Mighty Dondozo, as the only coverage moves it gets that are super effective against them are Ice Fang and Avalanche. Ludicolo would be perfect given it isn’t even weak to ice moves, but without a reliable way to power up its own moves damage output could be a problem.
Venusaur or Bellibolt armed with Acid Spray and STAB damage moves could work well, as could Miraidon. I’ll probably try my tried and true Bulk Up/Rage Fist/Shell Bell Annihilape first and see if that works before testing other options.
Best of luck shiny sushi hunting, trainers!
